Daniel & The Donkey Factor is a great book! It teaches the love of Jesus through a donkey family. I love how this book encourages children to trust their parents and open up when faced with hard situations- such as bullying. I also, love the relationship of mother and son, and how it encourages children to follow and serve our Lord Jesus. The illustrations are just beautiful! This book is great for children and families-even little ones will enjoy the book! It definitely serves as an icebreaker to talk to children about their emotions, how to handle them, and how to maintain a healthy relationship with parents. It also helps children understand the love Jesus has for us and the value of his sacrifice on the cross. It also, encourages children to embrace their Christian mission to spread the Gospel at an early age. Definitely recommend this book! It makes a great addition to your library.

Author Kevin P. Horath is a dynamic speaker and teacher who has served as Associate Pastor for Hillside Bethel Tabernacle since 1997 as well as working as a healthcare human resources executive for over 27 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
Kevin lives in Decatur, Illinois, with his wife, Kathy. They have three children, three grandchildren, two dogs, and one cat. In their free time, Kevin and Kathy love to sail on Lake Decatur.His goal is to help others find a spiritually healthy approach to life through the realistic, practical application of biblical stories, characters, and principles. What inspired you to write this book?
The inspiration came from a sermon series I preached called “The Donkey Factor.” I didn’t set out to write a children’s book but as I was preparing to preach the final message in the series, the story came to me. It was on Mother’s Day 2018 and I wrote the story the night before and shared it with the congregation in my sermon. The mother-son dynamic was extremely important to the story. I had some feedback that I should write a children’s book. I didn’t know where to begin but my step son’s fiancé is an illustrator. We got together, pitched the idea, and published the book through Lucid Books. Now, we are excited to release a Spanish version, made possible by our collaboration with the Spanish translator Natalia Sepulveda! It’s amazing how God brings things together!
How has your experience as a children’s book author been like so far?
Writing a children’s book is not easy. I am used to speaking to and writing for adults. That is hard enough. But I wrote the book for 4-8 year olds and I had to work with an editor to get it just right. There are a lot of concepts that are “hidden” in the story. I hope to write an adult devotional one day to bring those out. It will be a companion guide to the book. But on release day last Palm Sunday, I was able to read the story to a bunch of children. I saw other churches did the same thing and I was excited to see the message of the Cross being portrayed through our modest efforts. It is so humbling. I am not seeking fame and fortune (all this has actually cost me). I just want to see the Gospel proclaimed to everyone – all ages and even all languages.

¡Daniel y el factor burrito es un libro muy lindo! Éste enseña el amor de Jesucristo a través de una familia de burritos. Me encanta como este libro motiva a los niños a confiar en sus padres y a tener una buena comunicación con ellos, especialmente cuando están pasando por situaciones difíciles, como el hostigamiento. También, me encanta la relación entre madre e hijo y como ánima a los niños a seguir y a servir a nuestro Señor Jesús. ¡Las ilustraciones son hermosas! ¡Este libro es fenomenal para niños y familias- y le encantara hasta los niños más pequeños! Además, sirve como recurso para iniciar conversaciones para hablar con los niños sobre sus emociones, de cómo manejarlas y como mantener una relación saludable con sus padres. De igual forma, ayuda a los niños a comprender el amor que Jesucristo tiene por nosotros y el valor de su sacrificio en la cruz. ¡Definitivamente recomiendo este libro! Del mismo modo, es una excelente adición a su biblioteca.

¿Qué le inspiro a escribir un libro infantil?
La inspiración vino de una serie de sermones que predique llamado “El factor burrito”. No era mi intención escribir un libro infantil, pero cuando me estaba preparando para el mensaje final de la serie, la historia vino a mí. Era el Día de las Madres del 2018 y escribí la historia la noche anterior para compartirla con la congregación. La dinámica entre la madre e hijo era extremadamente importante en la historia. Recibí unas sugerencias motivándome a escribir un libro para niños. No sabía dónde comenzar, pero la prometida de mi hijo es una ilustradora. Nos reunimos, le compartí la idea y publicamos el libro a través de Lucid Books. Ahora, estamos muy emocionados para el lanzamiento de la versión en español, ¡la cual fue posible por la colaboración con la traductora Natalia Sepúlveda! ¡Es increíble como Dios trabaja!
¿Cómo ha sido su experiencia como autor de libros infantiles?
Escribir un libro infantil no es fácil. Estoy acostumbrado a hablar y escribir hacia adultos. Eso es ya es bastante difícil. Pero, escribí el libro para niños de 4-8 años de edad y tuve que trabajar con un editor para que estuviera escrito correctamente. Hay muchos conceptos “ocultos” en el cuento. Espero algún día escribir un devocional para adultos y así explicar esos conceptos. Servirá de guía para el libro. Durante el lanzamiento el Domingo de Ramos, tuve la oportunidad de leer el libro a un grupo de niños. Al mismo tiempo, vi que muchas iglesias hicieron lo mismo y me alegro mucho ver que el mensaje de la Cruz estaba siendo proyectado a través de nuestros modestos esfuerzos. Ha sido una experiencia increíble. No busco fama ni fortuna (esto en realidad me ha costado mucho). Solo quiero ver que el Evangelio se proclame a todos- a todas las edades e idiomas.
